4 Tips For Choosing a Real Estate Agent

Smith · June 1, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Regardless of whether you’re buying or selling your home, the right real estate agent can either make or break your experience. Finding the right agent isn’t as simple as doing a quick Google search, however. In order to find the perfect person for you and your needs, you’ll need to know what the criteria is.

Here are some of the things you should consider when looking for a real estate agent to sell or buy a home.

Experience

It’s fairly easy to get your real estate license, so don’t assume that everyone with a business card is necessarily qualified. Get to know how long someone has been doing real estate. People who have a lot of years under their belt in the real estate world are more likely to be able to give you a better quality experience.

This isn’t to say that new agents aren’t perfectly capable or committed to delivering you the results that you want, but it always helps to have the experience to avoid common mistakes. You’ll have a lot of questions along the way as you go, so it helps to have someone who can give you the right answer without hesitation.

Success Rate

Experience alone isn’t necessarily enough to Someone may have been doing real estate for years, but if their success rate is low, it doesn’t matter how long they’ve been in the business. Someone who is considered a successful real estate agent will have a high amount of sales in ratio to their total listings.

When searching for potential agents, don’t be afraid to ask how many sales they’ve had in the last year. Most importantly, get to know if the majority of their sales are for buyers or sellers. You want to work with someone who has expertise doing what you’d like them to achieve for you.

Familiarity With Your Neighborhood

If your agent is familiar with your particular neighborhood, then all the better. Knowing their way around your specific area will give you an advantage. Location matters, so having an agent that knows the ins and outs of the area you’re looking to buy or sell in is a huge plus.

They’ll have recommendations for how to negotiate and what the selling points are if you’re looking to sell.

Marketing Tools

Your real estate agent should be skilled at marketing and modern methods. Gone are the days of traditional paper flyers. Any agent you work with should know how to use technology to their advantage and have the know-how to reach a wide audience.

They should be as innovative as possible so that you can stand a chance in today’s competitive market. Knowing their way around marketing tools, which boost your chances of success all the more.
