3 Tips for Throwing a Fun Cooking Party

Smith · April 8, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Whether there’s cause for celebration or you’re just looking to eat with friends and family, cooking parties can be awesome. Of course, they do require some planning so that the logistics don’t take away the fun.

Here are 3 helpful tips.

Do it Outdoors

Outdoor cooking parties are just plain fun. They give you more space to spread out, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the cooking process without feeling cramped up indoors.

You want to:

  • Pick a spot like your backyard and make sure it’s accessible and has amenities like bathrooms nearby
  • Have different stations for prepping, cooking, and serving; well-equipped with all the utensils and ingredients. Even better if you have an RTA Outdoor Kitchen
  • Think of safety. For example, if you’re firing up the grill, keep it away from anything flammable, and have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case

Theme-based Menus

Themes make everything more exciting! They give your cooking party a vibe and make it feel like you’re on a mini culinary adventure.

You want to:

  • Pick a theme. Whether it’s Disney night, Taco Tuesday, or a Hawaiian luau, choose something that gets your guests excited
  • Go all out with dishes that fit the theme. Look up some recipes, get creative, and make sure you’ve got a good mix of appetizers, mains, and dessert
  • Deck out your space with decorations that match the theme. Think tablecloths, centerpieces, and maybe even some themed music to set the mood

For example, picture your backyard transformed into a tropical paradise for a Hawaiian luau. Tiki torches light up the evening as guests gather around tables adorned with colorful leis and flower centerpieces. On the menu: kalua pork, grilled pineapple skewers, and coconut shrimp, all served on bamboo plates with tropical drinks in coconut cups.

Cooking Challenges

Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? Cooking challenges add a fun twist to your party and get everyone involved.

You want to:

  • Split your guests into teams and let them duke it out in the kitchen. Mix it up with experienced cooks and kitchen newbies for some extra fun
  • Keep it simple but exciting. Maybe challenge teams to create a dish using a mystery ingredient or stick to a certain cuisine
  • Once the cooking’s done, have a taste test and let everyone vote on their favorites. Don’t forget to have some prizes for the winners—bragging rights count too!

For example, imagine the buzz of activity as teams huddle together, brainstorming ideas and chopping ingredients. Laughter fills the air as they race against the clock to create their culinary masterpieces. And when the judging begins, the tension mounts as everyone waits to see who will be crowned the cooking champion.

Throwing a fun cooking party is entirely possible! Try out these tips.
