Essential Things to Do in the First 24 Hours After Returning from a Trip

Smith · February 16, 2019 · Leave a Comment

The first thing you want to do after a long trip is to go back home and sleep. Yes, you need to take a rest for a few hours. When you finish resting, you need to get up and do the necessary chores. These are some tasks you need to do within the first 24 hours, or else you may have a problem.

Empty your suitcase

When you immediately put your luggage in the storage area, you might forget that you are yet to remove the contents. It might take days before you remember that you need to remove the clothes and wash them. By then, everything will stink. To avoid this problem, you need to put all the clothes you brought during the trip in the laundry basket, but there is no need to wash them right away if you still feel tired.

Remove the toiletries

The toiletries you took with you during the trip might be the same toiletries that you used at home (or at least some of them). If you forget to take them out, you will have nothing to use. You might decide to buy new ones even though you still need to finish the toiletries you took with you on the trip.

Empty your trash bin

It is best to remove the contents of your trash bin before you leave the house since it might smell awful when you arrive home. You do not want this uninviting smell to be the first thing to welcome you. However, when you start to take out all the things from the trip, you will realize that your trash starts piling up again. You might have bought several items of clothing and souvenirs. You do not need the packaging, and you decide to throw it away. Ask a trash pickup company to come over and help you empty the bin. They can send their staff to pick everything up. Some of them also offer a garage clean out service if you forgot to clean your garage before leaving. It might be a mess right now, but not for long after hiring a cleaning service.

Inform your neighbors and relatives

You need to tell the people closest to you that your entire family has arrived home from the trip. They might also worry about you since you travelled as a big group. Now that you are home, you can tell everyone that you arrived safely. You can post an update on your social media account or send a personal message. You might also want to return the favor of looking after your neighbor’s place if it is their turn to go on a trip.

Check all the appliances

You did not use these appliances for quite some time since you were away on travel adventures. You need to plug them in and check if they are working. If you sense a problem, you need to stop using that appliance and have someone come over to check it out.

It is understandable that you feel tired because of the trip, but it is not an excuse to avoid doing all these tasks.
